BEFORE FAME

Adityanath was born in Panchur, a small village in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttar Pradesh (now in Uttarakhand). In 1993, he renounced his family and became a disciple of Mahant Avaidyanath, the head priest of Gorakhnath Math. He was given the name 'Yogi Adityanath' upon his initiation into the Nath tradition.

Adityanath's political journey began in 1998 when he became the youngest Member of Parliament in the 12th Lok Sabha at the age of 26. He succeeded his spiritual mentor, Mahant Avaidyanath, as the MP from Gorakhpur and was re-elected for five consecutive terms. During his tenure as an MP, he was known for his advocacy of Hindu nationalist policies.
