Robert Fico is a prominent Slovak politician who served as the Prime Minister of Slovakia for multiple terms. Born on September 15, 1964, in Topoľčany, Czechoslovakia, he is the founding member and long-time leader of the Direction – Social Democracy (Smer-SD) party. Fico is known for his strong influence on Slovak political life, advocating for social democracy and euroscepticism, and his controversial stance on various national and international issues.

BEFORE FAME

Fico's journey to political prominence started in academia. He graduated from the Law Faculty at Comenius University in Bratislava in 1986. Fico went on to complete his doctoral studies, obtaining his PhD in law. He worked as a lawyer and a member of the Institute of State and Law of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. His political career began in 1992 when he joined the Slovak parliament as a member of the Party of the Democratic Left (SDĽ). However, his dissatisfaction with the direction of SDĽ led him to form the Smer-SD party in 1999.
