Rose earned a Bachelor of Science degree in agribusiness economics from Tennessee Technological University. He later pursued higher education, obtaining a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University and a Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University's Law School.

Before entering politics, Rose enjoyed a successful business career. He co-founded Transcender Corporation, a company that provided IT certification training materials, which he later sold.
